Supponor has taken its solution onto the basketball courts

With experience of approaching 500 live broadcast events, Supponor is established as the clear market leader in delivering trusted and reliable virtual overlay of high impact TV visible LED boards.  Having proven the virtual advertising platform in the challenging environment of outdoor top tier European football (soccer), Supponor has taken its solution onto the basketball courts.

What we offer...

The high-paced, non-stop and end-to-end action of elite basketball provides an extremely challenging environment for virtual overlay of LED scorers tables and courtside LED boards.  With almost continuous visibility in TV coverage, fast panning cameras and plenty of player, coach and trainer action in front of (or even sitting on!) the tables and boards the virtual technology must deliver solid, stable and reliable tracking to support authentic virtual overlay.

Supponor virtual overlay of LED scorers’ tables has been successfully deployed in the NBA since 2018 proving its quality at the annual All Star and Summer League events as well as providing virtually enhanced feeds from the 2019 NBA Finals between the Toronto Raptors and Golden State Warriors.

Supponor virtual overlay of LED scorers tables and courtside LED boards can incrementally increase availability of LED inventory, currently limited by the physically available time on a single TV visible broadcast feed, by creating an unlimited number of targeted feeds, each with differentiated messages to be delivered to various regional and international TV and OTT audiences.

On the same core platform, Supponor offers a range of additional virtual placement applications such as overlays of static or LED advertising on the stanchions, placement of static or animated messages on the pole pads and of course virtual on court graphics. Each of these additional applications creates multiple opportunities to deliver incremental value through targeted, region and platform specific, virtual advertising.  These can either be delivered as simple single application solutions or as powerful combined packages, both stand-alone or to complement the powerful virtual LED overlay.

Due to the high-scoring, slam dunk and 3-pointers from ‘down town’, nature of the sport of basketball, some of the most high-value and visible signage is located on the basket stanchion (static or LED) and on the protective pole pads. This inventory is valuable but also limited, that is until now. The use of Supponor virtual placement applications allows these once singular assets to be multiplied opening the opportunity, where current partners are domestic of single market focused, to engage additional high value partners in overseas or regional markets, allow current partners to add relevant activation messages or to add rotations.

Virtual court paint is not new, but why limit these placements to one or two markets and why employ the use of multiple technologies when the Supponor virtual advertising platform offers market leading virtual plain quality alongside its many other powerful virtual applications. Deliver perfectly keyed and authentic on court team logos, arena sponsors, partner brands, scores and shot clocks and make your global fans on TV, OTT or social media channels feel valued by delivering relevant information to them in their language in unlimited live feeds.

Either as additional boards beyond the foul line to complement a physical LED board system or as fully virtual perimeter board placed at the side of the court.  To add additional high impact inventory or for clubs where the cost of LED boards is prohibitive, especially where in arena or domestic audience is limited, the Supponor virtual perimeter application can add powerful virtual perimeter boards without the need for anything physically in the stadium that can display animated and rotational ‘LED style’ content targeted for multiple regions.

The Supponor virtual advertising platform supports the TV only application of virtual placement and overlay (erase and replace) in parallel and downstream of the host production, with no upstream impact on camera signals or production of the main domestic and international programmes.

Regular integration with multiple local and various production companies ensures the ability to support many modes of operation in all broadcast formats from standard definition (SD), through high-definition (HD) to ultra-high definition (UHD / 4K) and high dynamic range (HDR), both on site at stadiums and in fully remote (REMI) production centres. Advanced visual processing of incoming signals and graphics detection ensures the perfect layering of virtual assets into both clean programmes and dirty finished programmes – either individually or in multiple programmes simultaneously.
